It has been a year since I start working in a government hospital under DOH. Though i am not looking for a long term career as a civil servant I am enjoying my stay as I was able to learn a lot and it was an eye opener for me with the current state of the Philippines health care system. From the long lines of the out patient department that start at dawn, to the long working hours of the health care professionals, unpaid internship of post-grad interns, doctors not going into residency or changing careers because of being overwork, seniority and medical culture in the country, to the lack of funds on maintenance and facilities needed in building a strong healthcare system.
